X-callback-URL is also useful for grabbing your notes from outside of the app and or making Shortcuts to automate. This would move your note to archived sets of lists while keeping its structure.Īnother big feature of Bear is its use of search. One way to keep it is making a archive tag and every time you want to archive a note put a archive/ before your tag so that it becomes #archive/tag. There is archiving in Bear although it does not keep its tag structure anymore. You can also create notes by making a wikilink and then taping/clicking on it.Īnother tip here is to make the links in bullet so you can drag and drop around to reorder (on Mac only).īear's tag structure is very different to those of a folder structure, that as you go further down into a tag list, you can focus deeper on your topic, and as you go up your tag tree, you see the broader picture of what else notes are in your topic. This way is using tags less, but would hopefully make it easier to navigate in a 'folder way'. I think it might work better for you to make a TOC page and pin it on top and have pages linked in order through ]. One tip is, when you insert a tag say #04_thoughts/03_ideas, You can simply type ideas and the tag would be shown as your autocomplete options, and same for linking notes. I now love the loose tag structure and I am not bothered anymore to think of which note goes into where and creating folders haha. Or should I just go back to Ulysses and wish it looked as good as Bear? Am I just trying to force my toaster to work the same way as my frying pan and getting frustrated when it doesn't?Ĭan someone help me understand how great tags are and the advantages they offer?Ĭan anyone share their organisational system to show me how great it works for them? I get the impression that perhaps I'm just a dinosaur. I know you can do hacky tricks with numbers at the beginning, but not only does it look ugly and take up space, but when I want to quickly insert a page, the only way is by renumbering everything, or calling something "04a" etc In Bear, I'm limited to alphabetical organisation, which means the only way of organising is by the first letter of the page title - this drives me absolutely nuts! Job done.Īs for organising the individul sheets - here's the biggest deal for me: In Ulysses I can just put things into whatever order makes sense to my brain. Want to put a folder (sorry, "group") higher up inside its containing group because lots of the other folders are old and not of much interest now? Simply drag it. My problem is, that I came over from Ulysses, where documents and folders can just be pushed around and organised any way you like. All of that side of things is completely wonderful. ![]() ![]() I *love* how Bear app makes my notes look (it's elegant, simple and with the right theme, just plain gorgeous). (I used to actually use binders and sheets of punched A4 paper!) Unfortunately, my head works 100% on the old school hierarchical folders and documents model. I have been using Bear app for a while for notes - mainly whilst researching and learning new things. ![]()
